Canada’s top endurance athletes take over Revelstoke Mountain Resort on Saturday, July 19, 2014 when it hosts the Canadian Long Distance Mountain Running Championships.

The race starts at the resort’s day lodge and is a 60-kilometre gruelling run through mountain terrain. Competitors will run up the ski hill, through the alpine to the basin between Mount Cartier and Ghost Peak, and back down to the resort.

The 60-kilometre course is approximately 3,000 metres of elevation gain. Runners have the option to take part individually or in teams of three. The race starts at 7am and the winners are expected to reach the finish line around 2pm. All competitors have a 5pm deadline to finish.

There is more to the event than just a race; there is an entire weekend of festivities. On Friday, July 18, three guest speakers will share their stories beginning at 7:30pm, including Revelstoke ski mountaineering racer Melanie Bernier, elite Canadian ultra-runner Adam Campbell, and American trail running champion Max King.

There is a party scheduled for Saturday evening at the day lodge, and on Sunday, there will be 5K and 10K runs.

The Sutton Place Hotel is thrilled about all the amazing athletes that will be descending on the beautiful town of Revelstoke. The top finishers will be selected to represent Canada at the World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships at the Pikes Peak Marathon in Colorado on Aug. 16.

Good luck to everyone competing!
